by Pius Egip

Last week, the commission mediated a Shs 600 million case concerning a family estate dispute that had been filed in the commission at the beginning of the year 2024.

The matter that was presided over Sr. Mary Wasagali, “EOC/WR/091/2024” was successfully settled through a consent agreement where it was resolved that the land title shall be subdivided into parts in accordance with the old boundaries, all suits concerning the property shall be withdrawn and each party shall bear its costs, the burial grounds would be maintained in the current location and the caveat on the property be withdrawn.

Hon. Sr Mary Wasagali informed the parties that mediation promotes amicable settlement and it is voluntary and aims at promoting a win-win situation for both parties.

Both parties agreed to the mediation however following the parties’ failure to agree to an amicable discussion and agreement, Hon Sr Mary resorted to one on one discussions with the two parties in order to formulate an agreeable resolution to the dispute.

She then thanked the parties for accepting and embracing the mediation initiative emphasizing its benefits.

The commission was therefore established and put in place to redress imbalances, inequality, discrimination and all sorts of marginalization between all individuals and groups of people.
