The Equal Opportunities Commission met the Minister of Finance, Hon. Matia Kasaija at the Ministry Headquarters in Kampala yesterday.

The Minister revealed that the President had tasked him to create 700,000 jobs yearly to reduce unemployment in the country and that he had decided to engage the Commission to help him deliver on that assignment.

He asked the Commission, led by Chairperson Hon. Safia Nalule Juuko, to engage politicians, religious leaders, special interest groups, and other stakeholders to ensure participation and equitable benefit from government programs like Emyooga.

Hon. Safia in turn reiterated the Commission’s support towards the Ministry, the government, and Uganda at large in order to tackle the issue of unemployment, saying: “Unemployment is creating misery in society, where people cannot afford food, housing or medical care.”
