Sister Mary Wasagali
Sister Mary Wasagali Sr. Mary Wasagali is currently a Member of the Equal Opportunities Commission having been appointed by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the 19th of May 2021. She is an accomplished Psychologist having obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Uganda Martyrs University (UMU).
She is a Ugandan psychologist, politician, academician, and renowned Religious personality. Over the years, she has been employed in various capacities including: as a lecturer at Bugema University, Mbale Campus, a Member of the District Service Commission of Sironko, a Member of the Sironko District Tender Board, and earlier as an In-Charge Surgical Ward at Kenyatta National Hospital in Kenya. She has extensive knowledge on matters regarding Health and Gender.
She was born in Sironko District on 25th May 1964. She attended Evangelizing Sisters of Mary School-Kenya for her Kenya Primary Education Certificate. She then attended Evangelizing Sisters of Mary School-Kenya for her East African secondary Certificate.
Sr. Mary trained as an enrolled midwife at St. Mary’s Kalong Hospital Lira, Uganda before she pursued a course in Community Nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital Mukumu, Kakamega-Kenya. Sr. Mary later enrolled for a Certificate, Diploma, and Degree in Counselling Psychology from Uganda Martyrs University (UMU).
She obtained a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Uganda Martyrs University. Sr. Mary has also attained training in various health and gender-related aspects. She also wrote a research paper on Violence against women. Sr. Mary is a true believer in Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Democracy, and Socio-Economic Transformation. Sr. Mary just like St. Benedict believes success is a product of prayer and hard work (Ora et labora). In 2011, she joined politics and became NRM Chairperson Budadiri Town Council in Sironko District and later in 2016 became the NRM District Vice-Chairperson, Sironko. Sr. Mary has also served the Church for seventeen years as a Religious Nun in the Congregation of Evangelizing Sisters of Mary. Sr. Mary enjoys reading, community mobilization, and working with the marginalized members of the community.
