Uganda as a member for the East African Community is required to implement a number of resolutions through the various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs). The EOC given her mandate thought it wise to enhance the capacity of its staff on legislations and frameworks agreed on to promote Equal opportunities within the region so as to mainstream the same
Equally important is the fact that the Commission has been implementing various interventions towards promoting equal opportunities using a variety of approaches including: the gender and equity certification processes of capacity building, assessment, tracking, provision of social justice by offering free legal aid services, undertaking research on various government programmes to ensure they are compliant with equal opportunities as well as developing partnership for technical and financial leverage. These interventions have yielded very positive results, however, the international land scape on issues of inequality are fluid, dynamic, thus require the practitioners to keep up to date with the changes. This was a key realisation during the development of joint sector review for the justice and accountability sector Reform programme in Uganda that the EU committed to provide resources for internal capacity building for EOC to implement gender and equity programmers. The expected result of this to build the internal capacities of EOC staff in designing gender and equity interventions as one way of promoting equal opportunities and affirmative action in Uganda.
