COMPLIANCE AND ENFORCEMENT
Role of the Department
The mandate of the department is derived from Section 14 (2) (g) of the Equal Opportunities Commission Act, 2007 which states, “Without prejudice to the generality of subsection (1) the Commission may, monitor the compliance, in Uganda, with the provisions of international and regional conventions, treaties and other instruments to which Uganda is a party, that relate to or are relevant to the functions and objects to the Commission”;
The department is headed by a Commissioner and supported by eleven (6) other technical staff.
Key Functions
- Provide regulatory and compliance advice to entities on ongoing basis to keep them abreast of the regulatory, legal, administrative and policy changes in line with equal opportunities and affirmative action.
- Develop procedures, guidelines and tools for compliance with laws and regulations that facilitates equal opportunities and Affirmative Action.
- Develop effective compliance training programs.
- Assess the national budget framework paper, budgets and ministerial policy statements for gender and equity responsiveness in line with the Public Finance and Management Act 2015
- Assess compliance of Public and Private Institutions to Equal Opportunities and Affirmative Action.
- Undertake periodic reporting on Uganda’s Compliance to National, Regional and International conventions and treaties on Equal Opportunities and Affirmative Action.
